$10 Indian Head Gold Eagle (Random Year, XF)

Historic U.S. Gold Bullion | 90% Fine | Choice Extremely Fine Condition

A random date costs about 0.48 × the live gold spot price plus a collector premium, ships fully insured from Summit Metals, and is not IRA eligible (90% fineness is below the .995 IRS threshold). Best for collectors and investors who want historic American gold. Page updated July 2026.

Iconic Indian Head Eagle Design

Designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens under the guidance of President Theodore Roosevelt, the Indian Head Eagle embodies early 20th-century American artistry and strength:

  • Obverse: Portrait of Lady Liberty wearing a Native American headdress inscribed “LIBERTY,” surrounded by 13 stars and the issue year.

  • Reverse: Bold bald eagle perched atop a bundle of arrows entwined with an olive branch, symbolizing power and peace, framed by the legend “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA • TEN DOLLARS.”

Investment & Collector Appeal

  • Historic bullion: Nearly half-ounce of gold in a storied U.S. coin.

  • XF condition: Light wear balances collectible charm with lower premiums vs. mint state.

  • Random-date excitement: Potential for key dates or desirable mint marks.

  • Portfolio diversification: Combines numismatic appeal with intrinsic gold value.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the $10 Indian Head Eagle IRA eligible? No — at 90% fine it falls below the .995 IRS threshold; our modern Gold Eagles are the IRA route.

How much gold does it contain? 0.4838 troy ounces of pure gold (16.718 g total at 90% fine).

What does XF condition mean? Extremely Fine — a circulated grade with light wear on the highest points but full, sharp design detail. These are not BU coins.

Which year will I receive? A random date and mint mark from 1907–1933, based on inventory.

Who designed it? Augustus Saint-Gaudens, commissioned by President Theodore Roosevelt.

How much is it worth? About 0.48 × the live gold spot price plus a collector premium that varies with the vintage-gold market.

Why buy pre-1933 gold? Historic scarcity — most were melted after 1933 — plus numismatic upside on top of gold content.

Is it authentic? Yes — inspected for weight, fineness, and grade by Summit Metals.

Could I receive a key date? Possibly — random selection means occasional better dates or mint marks.

Can I sell it back? Yes — Summit Metals offers a buyback guarantee.
